Dr. Ammar Kheder of Wellstar Health System

Ammar Kheder, MD, MRCP is a neurologist and epileptologist with extensive training and leadership experience in the United Kingdom and the United States. He earned his medical degree from Damascus University in Syria before completing neurology training in the U.K. and advanced epilepsy and neurophysiology fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital–Harvard Medical School and the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Kheder specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy across all ages, with expertise in epilepsy surgery evaluation, stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), neuromodulation, and advanced EEG interpretation. He is committed to providing comprehensive, compassionate care while incorporating the latest advances in neuroscience to improve outcomes for patients and families.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Kheder has been actively involved in leadership, research, and education within national and international epilepsy networks and professional societies.
His interests include epilepsy surgery, SEEG, brain mapping, cognitive neuroscience, and the development of new tools to better understand seizure pathways and improve treatment. He is passionate about advancing the field of epilepsy through research and innovation, while fostering the next generation of physicians through mentorship and education.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Kheder enjoys music, art, sports and spending time with his family.
