Dr. Joseph D. Lamplot of Emory Healthcare
On July 11, we are joined by Dr. Joseph D. Lamplot, a sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon with Emory Healthcare’s Ortho & Spine Center in Flowery Branch, Georgia. Dr. Lamplot will discuss how his team integrates the Falcons’ medical care into their day-to-day operations and offer the same diagnostic and treatments to everyone in the community. He will also discuss injury prevention and highlight how the research center is working with community high schools and youth sports programs to minimize athlete risk.
Joseph D. Lamplot, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, including arthroscopic (minimally invasive) shoulder, knee, and elbow surgery, as well as shoulder replacement surgery. He serves as Associate Team Physician for the Atlanta Falcons and as the team physician for multiple Hall County high schools. He is an assistant professor at Emory University and currently sees patients at the state-of-the-art Emory Orthopaedics & Spine Center in Flowery Branch, located on the grounds of the Atlanta Falcons headquarters and training facility.
Dr. Lamplot completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois College of Engineering, graduating with highest honors. He was then awarded a scholarship to attend the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, also graduating with honors. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Washington University in Saint Louis where he assisted in caring for the St. Louis Blues and Rams. Dr. Lamplot then completed his fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, consistently ranked #1 in orthopaedics in the United States. There, he served as a team physician for the New York Giants and New York Red Bulls.
Dr. Lamplot has published over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, delivered over 40 presentations at national and international meetings, and authored eight book chapters. He serves on the Emerging Leaders board of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Additionally, he has received numerous grants to support his clinical and basic science sports medicine research. He has also received awards for many of his sports medicine research investigations (see below).
Dr. Lamplot brings to Emory Healthcare a philosophy that promotes an active lifestyle for patients of all ages.
