Dr. Shenelle Wilson of Georgia Urology
On December 20, Dr. Shenelle Wilson of Georgia Urology joins us.
Dr. Wilson graduated cum laude from La Universidad Adventista de las Antillas (Antillean Adventist University) in Puerto Rico with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She graduated magna cum laude from Morehouse School of Medicine with her medical doctorate. She completed her residency in urology at Augusta University, formally the Medical College of Georgia, and completed her fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FPMRS) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
She is a member of several professional organizations including the American Urological Association; the Society of Women in Urology; the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health; the American Urogynecologic Society; International Urogynecological Association; Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction; and the R. Frank Jones Urological Society. Additionally, Dr. Wilson has co-authored several publications and abstracts, participates in research projects, and mentors new physicians.
Dr. Wilson focuses on reconstructive surgery and has a special interest in prolapse repair, neurogenic bladder, and voiding and sexual dysfunction in both men and women. “Performing quality-of-life surgery is a privilege,” she says. “You have the opportunity to help others further enjoy their lives and experience dramatic improvements. It’s fantastic.”
She is the founder of the nonprofit Urology Unbound. Urology Unbound works in collaboration with academic and community urologists, medical societies, and industry partners to provide education, research, networking opportunities, and mentorship for future and current Black and underrepresented minority medical students.
When she’s not working, Dr. Wilson enjoys international travel, cooking West Indian, Latin, and African food, watching sports — especially the NBA — and playing soccer.
