Robert L. Richard, MD, FACS
Robert L. Richard, MD, FACS, is a bariatric/robotic surgeon and medical director for the Bariatric Weight Loss Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Dr. Richard began practicing medicine in Gainesville in 2002 after serving the U.S. Army as a trauma surgeon and at the Bleachfield Army Community Hospital in Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he founded the surgical weight loss program. Since 2010, he has been a partner at Longstreet Clinic, a multispecialty clinic in Northeast Georgia with over 200 providers in 18 medical and surgical specialties.
Dr. Richard was recently recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), an internationally recognized patient safety organization, as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.
Dr. Richard earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his residency at Harvard University/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Richard also completed a Mini Trauma Fellowship at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Richard is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Medical Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.
Alex Nguyen, MD, FACS, FASMBS
Alex Nguyen, MD, FACS, FASMBS is a general, bariatric and robotic surgeon in the Bariatric Weight Loss Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
A native of Georgia, Dr. Nguyen completed his fellowship training in 2008 and joined the staff at Northeast Georgia Medical Center the same year. He works with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group, the multispecialty group affiliated with Northeast Georgia Health System, with over 65 locations across Northeast Georgia.
In 2008, Dr. Nguyen became the first surgeon to perform the robotic gastric bypass in Georgia and was recently recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), an internationally recognized patient safety organization, as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery and Hernia Surgery.
Dr. Nguyen earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his surgical residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He also completed a one-year fellowship in Minimally Invasive, Bariatric and Robotic Surgery at the University of Texas in Houston.
Dr. Nguyen is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. His memberships include The Obesity Society, the Obesity Medicine Association, the Obesity Action Coalition, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery.
