Dr. Jamie Fernandez of the Tampa Bay Foundation for Mental Health
On September 1, we’re joined by Dr. Jamie Fernandez of the Tampa Bay Foundation for Mental Health.
Jamie Winderbaum Fernandez, MD, received her undergraduate education at Emory University, graduating summa cum laude in Biology. She attended Weill Medical College of Cornell University and during medical school, participated in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)-National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Scholars Program. After graduating, she completed an internship in internal medicine in New York, and residency in adult psychiatry at Stanford University Medical Center.
Dr. Fernandez joined the University of South Florida, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences in 2008 and is currently an Associate Professor and researcher. She has previously served as the Medical Director and Chief of Psychiatric Services at Tampa General Hospital. Currently, she is the medical director of psychiatric services at Memorial Hospital of Tampa where she heads the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Program and treats psychiatric inpatients.
Dr. Fernandez’ clinical interests relate to treatment-resistant depression, mood disorders during pregnancy and postpartum, substance abuse and addictions. Her research focuses on the neurobiology of postpartum depression and estrogen receptor function in women’s mental health. Dr. Fernandez is board certified in adult psychiatry, certified in electroconvulsive therapy, and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
