Dr. Richard DiCicco of HCA Florida Surgical Weight Loss Specialists
Dr. Richard DiCicco, a bariatric surgeon and the Medical Director for Bariatric Surgery at HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital, joins The Weekly Check-Up on December 21, 2024.
Dr. Richard DiCicco is a board-certified metabolic and bariatric surgeon with Florida Surgical Weight Loss Specialists. He is the Medical Director for Bariatric Surgery at HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital, an MBSAQIP Bariatric Center of Excellence Hospital, the Medical Director for HCA West Florida division, and the President of the medical staff at HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital. His surgical program is among the busiest in Tampa Bay and nationally recognized by Health Grades as Top 5% in the country for lowest complication rates. The center is accredited with all the major insurer’s specific centers of excellence designations as well.
Dr. DiCicco completed his general surgical residency at St. Agnes Healthcare, in Baltimore, Maryland. He has been in surgical practice in Tampa since 2004, and has performed thousands of minimally invasive bariatric surgeries including Roux en-Y gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, duodenal switch, SADI-S, gastric banding, hiatal hernia repairs, and revisional bariatric procedures.
Dr. DiCicco began using the daVinci Xi robot in 2015. He has performed over 2,400 robotic bariatric operations. He hosts a daVinci EpiCenter Case Observation Center to teach surgeons from around the world, as well as providing mentoring, proctoring, and lab teaching for Intuitive Surgical labs across the country.
Dr. DiCicco maintains memberships at the American College of Surgeons, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Society for Robotic Surgery. He works with a highly qualified staff who are experts in insurance coverage. He and his partners provide a comprehensive approach to the treatment of obesity including surgical and medical management utilizing the latest anti-obesity medications.
