Dr. Thomas “Sloane” Guy
Dr. Guy grew up in North Carolina and was a football player at Wake Forest University. He earned his medical degree from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and completed his residency and fellowship at Penn Med. He specializes in robotic heart surgery. After his training, Dr. Guy went on to work at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and eventually served three tours as an active-duty U.S. Army trauma surgeon — twice in Afghanistan and once in Iraq. He received a Bronze Star Medal and many other combat awards during his service.
He is an award-winning physician, having been named a “Top Doc” by Philadelphia magazine and U.S. News & World Report.
Dr. Karen Gersch
Karen Gersch, MD, is a renowned cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon who recently joined Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) and Georgia Heart Institute.
Dr. Gersch specializes in robotic heart and thoracic surgery. She received her medical degree from Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and completed her residency in general surgery at Creighton University Medical Center. She went on to complete another residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and then a fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Eastern Carolina University.
Outside of caring for her patients, Dr. Gersch enjoys spending time with her family, running and spending time outdoors. She is also a talented artist and received a scholarship for illustration in college and has published several medical illustrations.
