Dr. Fadi Nahab and Dr. Michael Cawley of Emory Healthcare

On December 15, Dr. Fadi Nahab and Dr. Michael Cawley of Emory Healthcare will be joining us to discuss stroke warning signs, prevention, and treatment.

Fadi Nahab, M.D.

Fadi Nahab, MD is a board-certified neurologist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He obtained his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 2003. It was shortly after that Dr. Nahab completed an internal medicine internship at LAC-Olive View Medical Center followed by his residency in neurology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. His fellowship in vascular neurology was also continued through Emory University School of Medicine thereafter.

Fadi Nahab, MD is the stroke quality director for Emory Healthcare and his practice is based at Emory University Hospital and Emory Clinic. His research interests include the treatment of cryptogenic (undetermined cause of) stroke, role of dietary behaviors on stroke prevention, acute stroke treatment, carotid stenosis, the treatment of intracranial atherosclerosis, fibromuscular dysplasia, and the evaluation and management of transient ischemic attacks (TIAs).

Dr. Nahab is a professional member of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association with numerous accolades to admire. He has been featured as a Top Doctor in Atlanta magazine, along with Castle Connolly Top Doctors honors. He is also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, Loma Linda University, Epsilon Chapter. In addition to his achievements, Dr. Nahab is a recipient of the Resident Faculty Teaching Award at Emory University, Department of Neurology, alongside being the winner of the Emory University Synergy Award.

Michael Cawley, M.D.

Upon graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine Magna Cum Laude in 1990, Dr. Cawley entered neurosurgical residency training at Emory University. He then completed fellowships in Cerebrovascular Surgery at the University of Florida and in Interventional Neuroradiology at Emory University, where he joined the Neurosurgical Faculty in 1998. Dr. Cawley has been practicing cerebrovascular and endovascular procedures for almost 20 years. During that time he was instrumental in gaining Comprehensive Stroke Center designation for Emory University Hospital, which was the first in metro Atlanta and the first in the state to be re-certified. He also has participated in one of the nation’s elite training fellowships in cerebrovascular & endovascular neurosurgery. This fellowship was among the first to receive CAST certification.

Dr. Cawley currently is a professor of Neurosurgery and Radiology, and is the Section Chief and Director of Endovascular Neurosurgery & Interventional Radiology for Emory Healthcare. He has been a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society since 1989, is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, and served on the Executive Committee of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He also maintains leadership and membership positions in several medical societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Joint Section on Cerebrovascular Diseases and the American Society of Neurointerventional Surgery.

Dr. Cawley’s clinical and research interests lie in the treatment of neurovascular disorders via both surgical and endovascular means. He is an active member of The Emory MBNA Stroke Center, which combines the expertise of cerebrovascular neurosurgeons, interventional neuroradiologists, stroke neurologists and neurointensivists, and has developed one of the largest clinical experiences in the nation.
