Dr. Michael J. McNeel

History and Education

Dr. McNeel graduated with honors from the University of Florida before pursuing his medical degree from the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. He then resumed his studies in the Atlanta area at Emory University School of Medicine, where he completed five years of general surgery training and served as chief resident in general surgery. From general surgery, Dr. McNeel chose to pursue plastic surgery at Emory University through a plastic and reconstructive surgery residency. Emory University is considered one of the premier universities to undergo plastic surgery training in the United States, and Dr. McNeel’s completion of this training is one mark of his excellence in his field. In addition to his studies, Dr. McNeel shared his expertise by serving as an instructor to other plastic surgeons from around the world, focusing on the use of endoscopic plastic surgery which is minimally invasive and produces less scarring than traditional types of plastic surgery. Dr. McNeel has been serving the greater Atlanta area since 1997

Dr. McNeel has achieved membership at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the foremost society for plastic surgery in the United States and a world leader in plastic surgery research and technology. In addition, he is:

Dr. McNeel has served as the chief of surgery, chief of plastic surgery, vice chief of surgery, and chairman for several committees at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. He has shown his dedication to the area for more than two decades, and continues to serve as an active member of the community through his family’s involvement in their local church.

Dr. Nirav B. Patel

Dr. Nirav Patel is our newest addition to Marietta Plastic Surgery, arriving with a unique training background.  He graduated from Princeton University with a degree in economics.  He then moved to New York City, graduating from Brooklyn Law School and joining the New York Bar.  Deeply affected by the events of September 11, 2001, Dr. Patel ultimately decided to go to medical school.  After completing a master’s degree in biology at New York University and two years’ neuroimmunology bench research, Dr. Patel attended the University of Rochester for his medical degree.  He then underwent a six year residency in general and plastic surgery at the University of California, Davis Medical Center, where he received awards for exceptional professionalism and mentorship of housestaff and medical students.  As a resident, he was active with the California Society of Plastic Surgeons.  In addition, he was involved with several international cleft lip and palate surgical missions, which included a Stryker Fellowship with Operation Smile.

Dr. Patel subsequently completed a one-year breast and aesthetic fellowship, endorsed by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Most recently, he has completed additional training in facial aesthetics and oculoplastic surgery. Both fellowships have afforded Dr. Patel the privilege of working with world-renowned experts in breast, eyelid, and facelift surgery.  Dr. Patel has co-authored many projects published in the plastic surgery literature, with podium presentations at the national and regional society levels.

Dr. Patel lives with his wife and two children in East Cobb.  He is notably a professional-level classical cellist who performs with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra.  He still uses his legal training in legislative advocacy efforts with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
