Dr. Rita Sharma of the Atlanta Gyn Center

This week we’re joined by Dr. Rita Sharma of the Atlanta Gyn Center, a DeKalb Medical Physician’s Group.

I am Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN). In addition to my OBGYN training, I am trained as an urogynecologist. (Urogynecologist is someone who is trained to bridge the fields of Urology and Gynecology) I have also completed a Fellowship in Female Pelvic Surgery at Emory University, School of Medicine. Even though I am trained and board certified in OBGYN, I do not deliver babies. My focus is in total Women’s Health Care. I have chosen to focus my care of my female patients from early adolescents through the reproductive years into menopause. I aim to provide one stop in gynecology and Women’s Health care at our office.

I believe in one-on-one, individualized, and personalized, comprehensive, state of the art care for you. Our office motto is that patient comes first. Gynecological exams are something that we all avoid but my office is set in a non-sterile fashion with great staff that makes this visit a breeze. My staff and I focus on the total care of our patients. The office respects your valuable time and offers consolidated visits to accommodate your busy schedules.

My focus is in from routine gynecologic care, adolescence gynecology, pelvic pain, endometriosis, contraception, interstitial cystitis, to pelvic organ prolapse, pessary fitting, incontinence care, and incontinence surgery.

I perform many laparoscopic procedures including the single port hysterectomies and the DaVinci robot for which I serve as a proctor for other physicians. I perform all advance robotic surgeries from simple hysterectomies, myomectomies, to sacrocolpoplexy on the robot and in open traditional manner depending on your medical factors.

As a gynecology/urogynecologist, I may be the only physician you see. Therefore, I do check for thyroid disease, check cholesterol, discuss weight management and life style changes. I believe in total well being of a patient. Often all these are very much related to most of the gynecological disorders we see and treat.

In addition to the above, I am trained in Cancer Risk Assessment and am a speaker for Myriad Genetic Laboratories, Inc. I screen for many hereditary cancers such as BRCA1, BRCA2 and Colaris for Colon Cancer and recommend counseling and treatment based on the findings.

It will be a pleasure and a privilege for our office to see you as a patient. Feel free to call and talk with our office staff at any time.
