Listen to a recording of the show.

This week we’re joined by Dr. Jairo Cruz and Dr. Todd Brennan of Healthy Feet Podiatry.

Dr. Jairo B. Cruz, Jr.

Dr. Cruz, Tampa podiatrist, takes a patient first approach to medicine.

“I believe that the key to medicine is compassion, and that is why I make sure my patients have a full understanding of their condition and what the game plan is to remedy it. The treatment of foot issues is a team sport and the patient is the most valuable player.”

Dr. Cruz uses state of the art therapies and medical techniques such as platelet rich plasma and restorative tissue therapies in order to aid the body during the healing process of an injured area. Many times with these therapeutic techniques one can avoid surgery all together. When surgery is needed Dr. Cruz tries to utilize minimally invasive surgical techniques to shorten healing time and improve the outcome of procedures while leaving virtually no scars. Not only can Dr. Cruz apply these techniques to correct bunions and hammertoes, but he can also treat persistent heel pain and chronic ankle pain.

With two children of his own Dr. Cruz holds a special interest in pediatric foot and ankle conditions. Dr. Cruz understands that one of the worst feelings in the world is having your child suffer from any ailment and unfortunately foot problems occur frequently in the pediatric population. “The treatment of pediatric foot and ankle conditions such as fallen arches and juvenile bunions are problems that I treat proactively in order to allow the patient to continue growing with their feet in a properly aligned fashion. I do this through exhausting all conservative measures first and surgical options are only considered if the patient and family agree that it is the best option for the child.”

Dr. Cruz attained his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Saint Xavier University of Chicago and his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, OH where he excelled in academics. Upon graduation Dr. Cruz completed a three year, surgically intensive, forefoot and rearfoot reconstructive residency program at Weiss Memorial Hospital and Cook County Health Systems in Chicago, IL. Dr. Cruz is board qualified in forefoot and reconstructive rear foot surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
